Bellum Tempestatum

Chapter I: The Broken Veil

The southern reaches of the galaxy are a place of storms, squalls, and dead calms — endless warp anomalies that plague the fleets of the Great Crusade. In Segmentum Tempestus, progress is measured in months of inaction, years lost to void-waiting, while other expeditions reap glory and renown. For the Astartes posted here, it is a bitter duty.

The 813th Expedition Fleet is no exception. Its warriors are restless, its commanders desperate for a true conquest. Command lies with Master Aleksandros of the Emperor’s Children's 22nd Chapter. Fulgrim's Legion is not alone: detachments of the Alpha Legion, Granite Guard, Space Wolvs, and Imperial Fists have been assigned to the 813th, each eager to prove that their Legion is the finest.

When the storms finally ease, as they have briefly in the past, the 813th Expedition Fleet surges into long-delayed motion, its battlegroups scattering to bring long-forgotten worlds into Imperial compliance before the Tempest stirs anew.

In the press of opportunity, a new route is reported — a tenuous warp-path leading to the unexplored Cindral Expanse. The rest of the 813th remains fully committed elsewhere, but the Red Priests of Mars whisper of great promise in the Expanse, and what the servants of the Omnissiah want, they usually get.

Master Aleksandros detaches the frigate Ashen Promise to appease the tech-priests. Aboard is a composite force drawn from all five Legions. They are sworn to scout the path, survey the Cindral Expanse, and return with knowledge of what lies beyond.

Beyond the broken veil lies the promise of discovery — and dangers the storm has long concealed.
